The Wedding of Lauren & Presley

Lauren Carroll alighted from the horse-drawn carriage and was struck with fear. She knew this was going to be a perfect day, but in that instant, the gazebo where Presley Roberts stood waiting seemed miles away. Taking her arm firmly into his own, her father whispered, “Take a deep breath. Keep your eyes on Presley. Walk slowly, and focus on him.”

Presley savored every moment of Lauren’s long journey down the flower-lined path, memories of their courtship tumbling through his mind. Today, family and friends would see the depth of their love, and Lauren would have “her day.”

Their story began five years ago, when Presley brought a company vehicle to Lauren’s father’s shop for detailing. Lauren caught his eye, so he kept coming back with more vehicles until he ran out. When Lauren’s dad invited Presley to go motorcycling and peppered him with personal questions, Presley realized Lauren must be interested in him as well. He literally took the plunge by taking her sky diving on their first date. Despite a professed fear of flying, Lauren made the leap. “I knew then that we were either going to be together forever,” Presley says, “or she would never talk to me again.”

Lauren wanted a wedding to reflect their fun-loving, laid-back personalities, and TJ Farms provided a perfect setting. Just three miles outside of Chico, the 15-acre working farmstead offered beautiful grounds, privacy, and a relaxed atmosphere. Plus, with its Southern Colonial-style mansion, towering walnut trees, and party barn, Presley’s family and friends from Arkansas were certain to feel at home.

The couple and their attendants created an elegant picture as they stood at the gazebo. Lauren was resplendent in a strapless, full-skirted gown, the bodice glimmering with swirls of Swarovski crystals. The women’s simple cocktail-length silk dresses and the men’s black suits created a striking contrast to brilliant bouquets of fuchsia and hot-pink gerbera daisies, which were tied with black ribbon with white polka dots.

...Lauren kept her eyes on Presley.

Evidence of Lauren’s—and her mother, Yvonne’s—passion for polka dots could be found in many places: on the ribbons around the table bouquets, on the cupcake tower—inspired by Yvonne’s famous cupcakes and baked by Uppercrust of Chico—and on the airy circles of fabric on the form-fitting beaded dress Lauren slipped into for the dance.

As the new Mr. and Mrs. Roberts and their entourage posed for photos, guests watched from the TJ Farms patio, nibbling on hors d’oeuvres and sipping from glasses engraved for the occasion. In keeping with the rest of the wedding, Lauren asked Special Times Catering to prepare a simple but delicious meal: lemon-peppered chicken, mashed potatoes, green salad, and fruit salad dotted with raspberries.

Then came time for heartfelt toasts, an NBA-style introduction, and the couple’s first dance. As they swayed to Sade’s “By Your Side,” for the second time that day, Lauren kept her eyes on Presley.
